Crisis?  Financial meltdown?  Global panic?  Who, we??  No way!  We, in the Third World have been in crisis mode way too long we hardly know what other kind of life there is!  Yeah, thanks to our perennial indebtedness… 

I’m not speaking from left field, geez, no!  I’ve been engulfed by the capitalist world way too long to have any pretensions at progressiveness.  Just happen to own a bit of common sense to understand what all this mess is pointing to.

If America is shuddering over the possible loss of homes, come over!  Marvel at the many homeless people we have.  If you worry about not being able to afford health care, a sizable steak on the dining table, or gasoline for the car, be our guest!  Walk around Timog Avenue, dine at an open resto… watch the kids swoop down on the left-overs on your plate.

So the Madam President is right.  The Philippines will not cower in fear over this crisis.  It’s our way of life!

If I see anything good about this crisis, it’s the way it would open people’s eyes to the resident evil in our systems, the false sense of security we’ve surrounded ourselves with, the loose fiber of globalization that our leaders tried to sew some nice patchwork on…

Time for the First World to experience what their poor brothers have known for centuries.  Time for the Third World to strut their stuff.  What stuff?!

The will to survive!  The Faith and gratitude… over nothing much!

Headline : Chinese Astronauts return from their first voyage in space!

‘Twas a triumphant, historic outing for Zhai Zhigang and his fellow astronauts as they embarked on a 68-hour journey that would showcase China’s neo-mastery of space technology.  A notable feat indeed, despite raising alarm bells among developed nations that tend to view it as a sign of China’s impending military adventurism in space!

Back here on earth, humans remain concerned over tainted milk produced in China.  Now, you know where my thoughts are going )

Forget about military ambitions; could economic adventurism( in space!) be in the offing?!  Preposterous thinking, I know, but we could all use a little humor in the news.

Let’s just hope extra-terrestrial beings are immune to… or else bolstered by… melamine!

Just as he had suspended pompous activities lined up for Day 1 of the Republican National Convention last September 1 to respond to any emergency posted by a hurricane, Senator John McCain is now suspending his campaign to focus on helping solve the US financial crisis.

The first presidential debate was scheduled for Friday, September 26 in Mississippi, but McCain practically threw the campaign into turmoil Wednesday by calling for a delay in the debate to try to forge a Wall Street rescue plan.

He is expected to return to Washington Thursday to try to help negotiations over a stalled $700 billion bailout plan for Wall Street.  Americans are generally skeptical about bailing out Wall Street with a plan that would cost the United States more than it put into the Iraq war, and with the economy hurting citizens at the very level of bare essentials, the bailout plan is getting attacks from everywhere.

McCain urged Senator Barack Obama to join him in trying to reach a consensus agreement by Monday.  Obama, however, said he saw no reason the debate could not proceed on Friday, adding that it is exactly the “time when the American people need to hear from the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsible for dealing with this mess”.

Simply put, we ask… should they talk or act?   Here were are, in an arena where both White House hopefuls are about to show off their expertise: Talk the talk… or Walk the walk!?
